Definition: Graduation rate: Percentage of students who graduated from high school on time (4-year cohort graduation rate); Dropout rate: percentage of students who dropped out from high school (including 9th to 12th grade)
Data Source: Mass Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, 2010, 2014, 2015 Reports
Footnote: We use an adjusted 4th grade graduation rate here. From the beginning of the 9th grade, students who are entering that grade for the first time from a cohort that is “adjusted” by adding any students who subsequently transfer into the cohort and subtracting any students who subsequently transfer out, emigrate to another country, or die, resulting in the fourth year in a net, adjusted cohort. For drop out, we included students who dropped out at any grade.
