The Boston Breastfeeding Coalition was formed under the umbrella of Boston Medical Center's Vital Village Network in January 2016. Since then, the coalition has convened meetings every six weeks and has grown to more than 70 members from 30 organizations. The coalition is currently working to expand and enhance group-based breastfeeding support services to caregivers across Boston.   In this effort, the coalition has a growing number of community scholars, currently over 30, who volunteer to lead engagement efforts across the city. The Coalition is committed to improving access to breastfeeding support for every parent in Boston, promoting connections between individuals and organizations that promote breastfeeding advocacy, and supporting pathways for professional lactation counselors.  Current strategies include a service learning model that supports community scholars to become peer counselors, ongoing professional development and training, raising awareness through multimedia communications.
