CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - People came together at Charlottesville High School on Wednesday night for a panel discussion on childhood adversity.
The panel was made up of leaders with groups like Piedmont CASA, the Women's Initiative, and Region Ten.
The event on Wednesday, April 17, focused on ways to prevent the potential negative impact of adverse childhood experiences, which experts say can take on many different forms.
"We know childhood adversities are very common,” Dr. Renee Boynton-Jarrett, a pediatrics professor, said. “We think about things like food insecurity, poverty, economic insecurity for families. But, we also think about child abuse and neglect - so, emotional, physical, sexual abuse."
